VEGAS WINNERS

iHeartRadio Festival Offers Pyro and Other Fireworks From Miley, Macca, JT, Mars, More
The weekend's iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas featured pytrotechnics galore (notably from Paul McCartney and Bruno Mars), an extended set by Justin Timberlake, an intense, visually spectacular performance by Thirty Seconds to Mars, and emotional fireworks from Miley Cyrus.

Cyrus, who wore a sheer dress with pasties, wept during her rendition of "Wrecking Ball" and offered up a cover of Melanie's "Look What They've Done to My Song, Ma" that reportedly perplexed some younger attendees. Her onstage retinue included a cutoffs-clad little person, the recipient of some spanking that inspired plus-sized press attention. She performed at the very first iHeart Village, held outdoors on the blacktop on Saturday afternoon, as well as that evening, at main venue The MGM Grand Garden Arena, when she was introduced by Britney Spears, eliciting roars from the crowd.

Thirty Seconds to Mars' set opened with a stark rendition of Rihanna's "Stay," followed by "City of Angels" and "Up in the Air."

Elton John and Katy Perry were crowd favorites on Friday, while Muse, Robin Thicke, Phoenix, Keith Urban and Miguel turned in impressive sets. Queen + Adam Lambert were joined by Fun., thrilling the Friday crowd; on Saturday, Joan Jett appeared onstage with Ke$ha for a rendition of "Bad Reputation," while Maroon 5 made the kids swoon and Tim McGraw drew "yeee-haws" from the throng. And Drake killed, prowling the stage with authority during his powerful set.

Other Village performers included Avril Lavigne, AWOLNATION, Cher Lloyd with Ne-Yo and Jason Derulo.

Backstage was heavy with industry players; among those spotted were Irving Azoff, Clear Channel's John Ivey and CAA's Rob Light. Ryan Seacrest was the main host for both evening shows.

While thousands saw the shows in person, millions more heard them on Clear Channel stations, streamed them on the iHeartRadio app and have set their DVRs to watch them when they're shown on TV (kicking off the CW's new season) on 9/30 and 10/1.

Overall, the third iteration of Clear Channel's music confab was a smashing success; kudos are due to Messrs. Hogan, Pittman, Sykes and Poleman.
