BIG NEWS ABOUT BIG JON

Esteemed Publishing Exec Is Named President, North America of Warner/Chappell

Big Jon Platt has been named President, North America of Warner/Chappell Music, announced Chairman/CEO and Warner Bros. Records head Cameron Strang, to whom Platt will continue to report.

The highly respected publishing exec, whose most recent title was President, Creative, North America, will oversee W/C's New York, Nashville, Miami and Toronto offices in addition to its L.A. HQ.

Strang called Platt "a once-in-a-generation executive and a terrific leader, with a deep understanding of the artistic process."

Platt said it was "thrilling to be partnered with Cameron in leading a company that is supporting and nurturing so many amazing songwriters. What makes Warner/Chappell the best home for songwriters of every genre at all stages of their careers, is our tireless focus on their long-term success and our determination to bring them fresh opportunities."

Platt joined W/C in 2012 as a key component of Strang’s revitalization agenda; since his arrival, the pubbery has inked Jay Z, Beyonce, Roc Nation's roster, Mike Will Made-It and Aloe Blacc, among others. He’s also overseen the strengthening of the company’s A&R team, appointing Ben Vaughn as EVP in Nashville and Jake Ottman as New York-based SVP.

Platt initially signed Jay Z and Beyonce during his 17-year tenure at EMI, where he also did deals with Kanye West, Usher, Drake, Pharrell, Sean Combs, Ludacris, Young Jeezy and Fabolous, among others.

Over the years, he’s won countless awards and accolades, including 17 straight ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Awards. He was also the UJA-Federation of New York’s 2011 Music Visionary of the Year. He has also served as a consultant for various major labels and served as Vice Chairman of the MusiCares Foundation Board and sat on the Board of the Living Legends Foundation.

He's also been featured prominently on this website, but miraculously, that doesn't seem to have hurt his career a bit.
