“SPRINGSTEEN,” SNOOP, THE CIVIL WARS SPICE UP CMA AWARDS NOMS
The Country Music Association Thinks Out of the Box for This Year’s Field
Eric Church leads the field of nominees for the 46th Annual CMA Awards, which  were announced this morning on Good Morning America. Church picked up five nods, for Male Vocalist and Album of the Year, along with Song, Single, and Video of the Year for his hit “Springsteen.”

Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert followed with four noms apiece, while Taylor Swift snagged three, despite the fact that her most recent album, Speak Now, came out two years ago and her new one, Red, won’t be released until Oct. 22. Swift is the lone female up for Entertainer of the Year.

The Civil Wars continued their takeover of the mainstream country audience, scoring nods for Vocal Duo and Musical Event of the Year for “Safe & Sound,” their collab for the Hunger Games soundtrack.

Among the surprises: Kelly Clarkson’s nom for Female Vocalist of the Year and the presence of one Snoop Dogg in Musical Event for his duet with Willie Nelson on the old-timer’s “Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I Die.”
