THESE BOOTS WALK TO #1

Aldean Tops Album Chart With Year's Third-Biggest Bow; Hozier Sees Strong #2 Debut

Broken Bow’s Jason Aldean is Country’s king this week, topping the HITS Building Album Sales Chart with 281k for Old Boots, New Dirt. This marks 2014's third-biggest debut; three of the year's Top 5 bows are now Nashville records (the other two came from Eric Church and Brantley Gilbert).

Aldean’s 2012 release, Night Train, sold 409k out of the box and has moved 1.6m+ RTD.

Columbia's Hozier, the Irish singer/songwriter who burst on to the scene after the viral success of smash single “Take Me to Church," has ample reason to hoist a Guinness: His debut album overperforms with 58k, good for #2 on the chart, after a standout SNL performance. "Church" is crossing to Pop radio now after exploding at Alternative, is trending Top 10 at iTunes and has earned 14m+ YouTube views. Look for more developments on the Hozier front very soon.

Barbra Streisand holds her ground at #3, raking in another 48k (-34%), with Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga’s collaboration hot on her heels at #4 with 37k (-33%). Look for these two upper-demo releases to battle it out for Aunt Rachel's Chanunkah gelt throughout Q4.

Meanwhile, last week’s chart-topper, Blake Shelton, brings in 35k (-66%) at #5. Lady Antebellum move #2-10 in their second week with 22.5k (-69%), while Childish Gambino’s quickly released EP sees a 14% bump with 18k in its second week for Glassnote.

Republic’s Weezer debuts this week at #6 with 35k, along with SYCO/Columbia’s X Factor winners Alex & Sierra (#7, 27k), Reprise’s Stevie Nicks (#8, 26k) and Geffen’s Keyshia Cole (#11, 22k).

Be sure to keep an eye on Sony MasterworksPiano Guys. They bowed at #14 with 19k, but they’re bound to make some noise all the way through the holiday season.

Inside’s Jackson Browne rounds out the Top 15 with just over 18.5k, and RCA’s Tinashe lands a hair's-breadth behind at #16.
