WEEKEND WINNERS LED BY RG3, TAYLOR SWIFT

Tonight’s Season Premieres: MNF and The Voice
On the first weekend for the NFL and the second for college football, the San Francisco 49ers, the Redskins behind super-rook QB Robert Griffin III, Alabama, UCLA and Taylor Swift notched big wins.

Swift has held the #1 and #2 songs positions at iTunes since she debuted the chart-topping track Friday night on the special Stand Up to Cancer, which aired on all four networks. The acoustic ballad is a tribute to the late Ronan Thompson, a three-year-old boy who died of neuroblastoma in 2012. (Ronan's mother Maya co-wrote the song, whose proceeds will go entirely to cancer research.)

Also looking strong is Alicia Keys, who performed her new single “Girl on Fire” at the fundraiser, one night after introducing it on the VMAs. The title track from Keys’ upcoming RCA album is presently #10 on the iTunes singles chart.

Meanwhile, in London, Coldplay, Jay-Z and Rihanna performed at the closing ceremony of the Paralympic Games, which drew a U.K. TV audience of 7.7 million.

The momentum carries over into the new week, with the season premiere of ESPN’s Monday Night Football, a double-header, with Cincinnati @ Baltimore followed by Oakland @ San Diego.

NBC will counter with the season premiere of The Voice, the first installment of a three-night triple-header, culminating Wednesday when the show goes head to head with the season two opener of The X Factor. The Fox show has its own star power with new judges Britney Spears and Demi Lovato.
