HEAVYWEIGHTS TURN OUT ON CUE
Industry Leaders Attend Spirit of Life Gala Honoring Apple SVP

Last night’s City of Hope Spirit of Life gala attracted some of the industry’s heaviest hitters.

The evening at L.A.’s Pacific Design Center saw Apple SVP Internet Software and Services Eddy Cue receive the 2014 Spirit of Life Award, COH’s highest honor; the award recognizes “an individual whose work has fundamentally impacted the music and entertainment industry.” Cue—the first honoree from the tech world—certainly fits that description.

Dre, Cue, will.i.am, Jimmy: That's the Spirit.

No Doubt performed a number of their hits and lead singer Gwen Stefani sang a rousing “Happy Birthday” to Cue. Kondrk and Gianopulos presented the Guest of Honor with his award. Cue reflected on the 11th anniversary of the iTunes Store rollout and likened Apple’s creative environment to that of COH, where innovation is fueled by brilliant minds in a positive environment.

Azoff,, Grubman, Rapino, Sarandos, Guy O: That's a lotta heavy.

This year’s Entertain Hope campaign has raised $5 million for COH’s efforts on behalf of medical research and treatment, and throughout this month iTunes users have been able to donate directly to the nonprofit through their accounts.

Sinead O’Connor would’ve attended, but she was performing a gig with Pope Francis at the Vatican, according to attendee Michael Schimmel of dcp.
