John Mayer Returns to #1 for Second Week; Spektor, Sharpe, Sigur Rise in Top 10
John Mayer returns to the top of the HITS Album chart for the second consecutive week, as his Columbia release Born and Raised racks up another 67k for a total of 286k.

His labelmate, XL/Columbia’s Adele remains at #2 with 21 adding 58k (up 9%) to its remarkable cume of 9.26 million, thanks in large part to last week's prime-time NBC special, which also helped boost her 19 album #43-24, +23%.

Syco/Columbia U.K. boy band One Direction’s Up All Night lands at #3 with 41k (+14%), giving Team Stringer/Barnett the top three sellers of the week.

Sire Russian piano prodigy Regina Spektor’s What We Saw from the Cheap Seats, her sixth studio album, breaks the Columbia hegemony at #4, with an opening week total of 39k, making her the top debut.

19/Arista Nashville Idol Country star Carrie Underwood’s Blown Away lands at #5, with a five-week total of 516k.

Vagrant SoCal neo-hippie outfit Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic ZerosHere bows at #6, while XL/Beggars Icelandic avant-rockers Sigur RosValtari is the other Top 10 debut at #9.

Capitol/EMI’s Now 42 (#7), Capitol Nashville/EMI’s Luke Bryan (#8, +18%) and Mercury Nashville’s Lionel Richie (#10), the latter the largest-selling album released so far this year, round out the leader board.

Other Top 50 new entries come from RCA Atlanta rap trio Travis Porter (#16), Razor & Tie/Red Ink Iowa Christian metalcore band For Today (#17), Columbia X Factor U.K. runner-up Rebecca Ferguson (#21), StarbucksJohnny Cash compilation (#26), 19 Recordings Idol winner Phillips PhillipsJourney to the Finale (#28), Casablanca/ Universal Republic’s Scissor Sisters (#33), Verve’s Melody Gardot (#34), BNA’s Wade Bowen (#42) and Fat Possum’s The Walkmen (#49).

Columbia’s Mary Mary (#31), Capitol Nashville/EMI’s Lady Antebellum (#32) and Republic Nashville’s The Band Perry (#40) all re-enter the sales chart.

The week’s other big gainers, aside from Adele, One Direction and Luke Bryan, include fueled by ramen’s fun. (#33-12, +57%) and Broken Bow’s Jason Aldean (#31-18, +11%).

Capitol/EMI’s Beach Boys reunion disc, That’s Why God Made the Radio, tops the list of today’s releases, which also includes Capitol Nashville/EMI’s Alan Jackson, IDJ’s Big K.R.I.T., Fantasy/Concord Music Group’s Joe Walsh, Warner Bros.Curren$y, Columbia’s Brandi Carlile, Warner Bros’ Neil Young and Crazy Horse, Glassnote/Columbia’s The Temper Trap, Disque Hives/ADA’s The Hives and WaterTower’s Rock of Ages soundtrack.
