MOVES LIKE FELDSTEIN 2:
DOING "LINES"

Manager and CAM Head Hails
Robin Thicke's Breakthrough

When we profiled Career Artist Management head Jordan Feldstein on this site in January, we focused largely on the colossal success of Maroon 5. Toward the end of the piece, however, Feldstein voiced his excitement about the next project by another client: Robin Thicke. “I think as an artist, a brand and a star, he has the capability of reaching a much wider audience,” the manager promised.

That was a bit of an understatement, it turns out.

Of course, Thicke’s grooving single “Blurred Lines” (featuring Pharrell and T.I.) turned into a juggernaut, moving 4.5 million downloads; it remains #1 at iTunes and at Pop, Rhythmic, Hot AC, Urban and Urban AC radio (with 257k+ cumulative spins and more than 36k this week).

Along with a notoriously steamy video (more than 128m VEVO views for the official version and 8.6m on the unrated clip), the track drove a killer 174k, #1 bow for the album of the same name. So we could probably say the manager’s faith in his client’s new music was justified, eh?

“Robin has been one of the most satisfying projects I have ever worked on,” Feldstein says. "When he was Adam Levine's mentor on The Voice, I kept thinking what a star he was. When I heard 'Blurred Lines' I knew it was special immediately, but not an obvious song for radio. I knew we would have to be creative. I have to give credit to Diane Martel and Robin for being so daring with the video, and to everyone at Interscope for following our vision.”

Thicke’s album also includes songs by Dr. Luke, will.i.am and Timbaland. “The beauty of this record is that the will.i.am. track sounds like it could be played in Ibiza, and there are other tracks that are more Urban records,” Feldstein explained at the time. Now that Thicke is on top at five formats, we’re thinking the sky’s the limit. You can read our earlier piece, “Moves Like Feldstein,” here.
