KERRI EDWARDS TALKS LUKE BRYAN

KP Entertainment’s Kerri Edwards recently spoke with Pollstar about all things Luke Bryan, the top-drawing artist of Q3, including meeting him during her time at Murrah Music, his deal first label deal, touring, launching a beer brand and more.

Regarding the start of Luke's career, Edwards, who now also manages Cole Swindell, Dylan Scott, Whitney Duncan, Jon Langston and more at her expanded KP Entertainment, explained: “Mike Dungan, who’d been at Arista (as the head of Sales & Marketing) with me, finally said, “I think he’s not quite ready, but I’m going to give him a deal.” That magnetic thing, that little 'it' it takes, Dungan saw it.”

On his standout moment, Edwards recalls “Country Girl Shake It for Me.” “It was such a different song, produced in such a different way, especially for Nashville at that time. When they wrote that song, they called me and played it over the phone. When I heard the hook, I was like, “Oh, wow...” You just knew, even then. But to see him do it on the CMA Awards in front of the industry and the other artists? That was a moment."
