Spotify and Big Machine’s Midland have just launched an original new podcast series, Set It Straight with Midland. Focusing on country music history, the series aims to explore and set the record straight about some of the genre’s strangest and surprising stories.
The ten-episode season kicked off yesterday (9/25) with veteran record producer, tour manager, and author Phil Kaufman discussing the truth behind the legend of Gram Parsons’ corpse.
Also joining the lineup of guests include ten-time Grammy nominee Tanya Tucker, who was allegedly booed off the Grand Ole Opry in ‘78, songwriter Earl Bud Lee, rumored to have sold the rights to his biggest song to settle a bar tab, and Grammy-award winner Dwight Yoakam discussing Buck Owens’ “Streets of Bakersfield,” among others.
“Much of the inspiration behind Midland comes from our country music heroes and the legacy they’ve left for us to learn from. Their tall tales are things of lore, and we are taking on the immense challenge of uncovering the truth and setting their stories straight,” goes a quote attributed to the Grammy-nominated band, who released their latest album Let It Roll earlier this summer and are accustomed to speaking in perfect unison.
