ISSUES WITHIN OUR GENRE:
Streaming compensation. How we can continue to look at this structure and improve it for all parties involved? It’s especially scary for the writers in this town—and the number of writers we employ has been cut in half over the past five years. The publishers are not seeing enough revenue to sustain their companies. These people are our lifeline to the music and we have to protect them. Bart Herbison, Lee Miller and the team at NSAI are doing a fantastic job at keeping this issue on the radar of the U.S. Congress. I know they will continue to raise awareness and make changes. As for new music, I think we are at another crossroads of figuring out the way the consumer wants to get new music, and how we deliver that.
