A tribute concert to Waylon Jennings, featuring performances from modern day outlaws Chris Stapleton, Eric Church and Kasey Musgraves plus Jennings’ son, widow and old pals Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson, will premiere on CMT on 4/7. Sony Legacy will release the concert film as a CD/DVD combo and digital download the same day.

Filmed at the ACL Live at The Moody Theater in Austin, Outlaw: Celebrating The Music Of Waylon Jennings also features Sturgill Simpson, Toby Keith, Alison Krauss, Ryan Bingham, Jamey Johnson, Lee Ann Womack, Robert Earl Keen and Bobby Bare performing songs written by and associated with Jennings. Blackbird Presents CEO Keith Wortman and Mark Rothbaum created the show with Shooter Jennings and Jessi Colter, who performs her song “Mona,” which appeared on her late husband’s 1974 album This Time. Shooter performs Shel Silverstein’s “Whistlers and Jugglers,” which his father covered in 1978.

Don Was and Buddy Cannon led the band, which included notables such as Buddy Miller and Willie’s harmonica player Mickey Raphael plus former Jennings associates Robby Turner on pedal steel and Richie Albright on drums.

Among the songs performed are “Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys” (Nelson and Keith), “Lonesome, On'ry And Mean” (Church) and “I Ain't Living Long Like This” (Stapleton). Nelson, Kristofferson, and Jamey Johnson and Shooter perform “Highwayman,” and the entire collection of singers join in on “Luckenbach, Texas” for the finale.

Wortman, who has produced tributes to Jerry Garcia, The Last Waltz, John Lennon and others the last couple of years, said “Waylon had the courage to kick in the doors of country music. He paved the way for artists with country roots to push into rock, soul, and jazz. Waylon was a true original – to himself, to his fans, and always to the music. This show is a testament to how special he remains to artists and fans.”
