CROSSOVER
THE BALL STREET JOURNAL

After a somewhat challenging start to the year with a lack of releases, low star power and limited staying power with new music, it feels like we are in a very healthy place now.

The Top 10 is full of core artists and breakthrough hits, with more crossover records from the likes of Toosii, Metro Boomin and Coi Leray becoming true multiformat hits. And in the last two to three weeks, we have seen releases from Drake, The Weeknd, SZA and Ice Spice, just to name a few. It’s shaping up to be a very solid summer.

Rema & Selena Gomez’s “Calm Down,” which was released last October, was down in spins and needed CPR to be revived. Well, nearly seven months later, the track is officially #1! Congrats to Nino and Interscope for not giving up and persevering and believing in the record, which is also on pace to be #1 at Top 40 this week. This has my early vote as the promo job of the year. Nino also has Ella Mai’s “This Is” at #27 after an increase of 145 spins, while Rae Sremmurd’s “Tanisha (Pump That)” (Eardruma) is currently holding at #43 and Kali Uchis’ “Moonlight” climbs five spots to #44.

Over at Columbia, Strazza welcomes Tyler, The Creator’s “DOGTOOTH” to the Top 25. It’s up 260 spins and continues to bring new believers on board every week. Strazza is also impacting ROSALÍA x Rauw Alejandro’s“BESO” and is targeting the Latin leaners.

RCA’s Lori G and Inca see SZA’s “Snooze” (TDE) rise six places to #29 this week after a 470-spin gain. This will be inside the Top 20 in a few short weeks. They also debut LiBianca’s “People” at #39, which sees an increase of 245 spins.

Dixie Tipton and Capitol have a very precise goal: to take Toosii’s “Favorite Song” (SCMG) to #1. It is currently perched at #7 and is up an impressive 580 spins. The metrics on this—at both rhythm and Top 40—are quite impressive. Dixie is targeting to hit the top spot three weeks from now. Capitol also has Ice Spice’s “In Ha Mood” (10K Projects) sitting at #8. The track gains 425 spins this week as her new single, “Princess Diana” w/Nicki Minaj, debuts at #32 after seeing an increase of 480 spins. It’s safe to say that Ice Spice is one of this year’s biggest artists. Meanwhile, Doechii x Kodak Black’s “What It Is (Block Boy)” (TDE) is quietly climbing the charts every single week. This time, it moves to #12 with help of a 450-spin increase.

Davey Dee and Republic have their sights set on the Top 5 for Nicki Minaj’s “Red Ruby Da Sleeze.” With a boost of over 475 spins, it comes in at #6 on the latest chart. Davey also welcomes Drake’s “Search & Rescue” (OVO) to the Top 10. The single gains a whopping 930 spins and is surely a lock for the Top 5. Big Boss Vette’s “Pretty Girls Walk” rises to #18 and looks to bring on new believers, while The Weeknd’s “Double Fantasy” f/Future (XO) is off to a tremendous start and debuts at #19 with a massive increase of 1265 spins.

Sack and Dontay at Epic take BIA’s “I’M THAT BITCH” to the Top 20. She also enjoys a triple digit increase of 150 spins and continues to develop.

And over at Warner, B Dot Scales sees NLE Choppa x Lil Wayne’s “AIN’T GONNA ANSWER” move to the Top 15 this week. It is up 260 spins and will surely continue to grow.

Biggest Increase:
The Weeknd “Double Fantasy” f/Future (XO/Epic-Republic)
Drake “Search & Rescue” (OVO/Republic)
Rema & Selena Gomez “Calm Down” (Mavin/Virgin/Interscope)
Toosii “Favorite Song” (SCMG/Capitol)
Nicki Minaj “Red Ruby Da Sleeze” (Republic)

Buzz Records:
Ice Spice & Nicki Minaj “Princess Diana” (10K Projects/Capitol)
SZA “Snooze” (TDE/RCA)
Kanii “I Know” (Warner)
Coco Jones “ICU” (High Standardz/Def Jam)
Kali Uchis “Moonlight” (Geffen)
