CROSSOVER
THE BALLSTREET JOURNAL

I would personally like to welcome Doughboy, the new PD of KVYB (Oxnard/Ventura), to the Rhythm family! He comes from Albuquerque, where he worked primarily as on-air talent. He’s in a competitive situation, and is looking to take the station to the next level. Reach out to him at [email protected].

A round of applause goes out to Nick P, Michael Starr and the entire Glassnote label for their relentless effort in making Childish Gambino’s "Redbone" the #1 record at the format. It was released over six months ago, starting at Urban AC, and migrated to Urban, then to Rhythm. It was an amazing promotion job from start to finish.

Hot on its tail is Epic’s Sujit Kundu with French Montana f/Swae Lee’s "Unforgettable" (Bad Boy), which was up another 540 spins. It continues to be among the Most Increased of the last month, and slides to the #4 position this week. DJ Khaled f/Rihanna & Bryson Tiller’s “Wild Thoughts” (We The Best) continues to rocket up the chart, as it climbs #11-7, gaining over 1000 spins. This one could very easily be the next #1 after French Montana. Camila Cabello’s “Crying in the Club” (SYCO) is at #31, and Fifth Harmony f/Gucci Mane’s “Down” holds at #37. Travis Scott’s “Butterfly Effect” (Grand Hustle) is just getting started, and lands at #58 this week, gaining 85 spins.

Columbia’s Ayelet Schiffman and James White see Dej Loaf’s “No Fear” jump five slots to #22, thanks to a 310-spin increase. Russ’ “Me You” also gains five slots, and is now at #30, up 35 spins. They also have a double debut this week, as both Lecrae f/Tori Kelly’s “I’ll Find You” (Reach), and Calvin Harris f/Future & Khalid’s “Rollin’” make it on the chart. Both were up triple-digits and continue to grow. There’s another Calvin Harris track that radio is playing, “Feels,” which features Pharrell, Katy Perry and Big Sean. That’s at #49 and also up 120 spins.

Republic’s Gary Spangler and Davey Dee see The Weeknd’s “Reminder” (XO) continue to grow inside the Top 10. It was up another 175 spins. Liam Payne f/Quavo’s “Strip That Down” climbs inside the Top 15, thanks to a 230-spin increase. Drake’s “Signs” (YMCMB) continues to see new stations come on board, as it moves to #53. They’re impacting new artist Jacquees (pronounced Ja-Kwees), whose song “B.E.D.” (Cash Money) is already at #55. It was up 165 spins, and is already #16 at Urban.

Over at RCA, Inca and Lori G continue building Kid Ink f/Ty Dolla $ign’s “F With U” (Tha Alumni/88 Classic). That’s #13, and was up over 150 spins. The next stop is Top 10! SZA f/Travis Scott’s “Love Galore” (TDE) is something you definitely need to be aware of if you’re not already playing it. The sales are impressive, and the track, up 180 spins, just misses debuting this week at #41. Goldlink’s “Crew” (Squaaash Club) is also still developing and just misses the chart at #43, while gaining 85 spins. Khalid’s “Young Dumb and Broke” (Right Hand) is at #46, up 70 spins.

Def Jam’s Rick Sackheim and Noah Sheer are nearing the Top 10 with Logic f/Alessia Cara & Khalid’s “1-800-273-8255.” It’s at #12 this week, up 125 spins. Big Sean’s “Jump Out the Window” (G.O.O.D.) is at #25, up 50 spins. At #34, 2 Chainz f/Ty Dolla $ign, Jhene Aiko & Trey Songz’s “It’s a Vibe” has an impressive week, tacking on an additional 170 spins. They’re impacting Jay Z’s “4:44” this week. It’s also worth noting that radio is already playing a number of tracks from that album.

Greg Marella and Dixie Tipton at Capitol have NeYo’s “Another Love Song” (Motown) at #45, up 80 spins. They’re also impacting a new one, Lil Yachty f/Diplo’s “Forever Young” (QC/Motown), which already has 160 spins and is at #70.
