With March having arrived, it’s starting to actually feel and look like spring. To say the winter has been mild on the East Coast is an understatement. T-shirts and shorts in February? The golf courses looked like a typical day in May. And for all of you college basketball fans, it also signifies March Madness. This, to me, is the best three weeks of sports. Underdogs, Cinderellas, they all come to play. The start of the baseball season is also three weeks away. Can the Cubs repeat? Will the Red Sox’ amazing pitching carry them this year? It’s a long, long season, but getting off to a great start sure does help.
Speaking of getting off to a great start, Epic’s Future f/Rihanna “Selfish” (A1/Freebandz) is doing just that. It debuted at #40 after just one week, gaining more than 500 spins. Sujit Kundu actually has the Top 3 most increased records this week. Travis Scott’s “Goosebumps” (Grand Hustle) holds at #6 this week, adding 525 spins to his total. They have their eye on #1 in two-three weeks. They also have DJ Khaled f/Beyonce and Jay Z’s “Shining” (We The Best) climbing from #15 to #11. This was up 540 spins. Rick Ross f/Ty Dolla $ign’s “I Think She Like Me” comes in at #50, and Future’s “Draco” powers up to #55. Swift’s “Pull Up” is developing, and is up 40 spins. Sujit is impacting 21 Savage’s “No Heart,” which is already at 100 spins.
Republic’s Gary Spangler, Davey Dee and Stef Cole have The Weeknd’s “Party Monster” (XO) climbing into the #3 positon. It was up a very healthy 450 spins. This is looking like the next #1 record in a week or two. Ariana Grande f/Future’s “Everyday” is now top 15 after a 110 spin increase. Marian Hill’s “Down” (Photo Finish) continues to develop, moving #22-20. They were up 290 spins. Post Malone’s “Congratulations” moves closer to the top 25 as it sees a 220 spin increase. There are a number of signs— streaming numbers and sales—that point to this being a big record. Julia Michaels’ “Issues” nears debuting, coming in at #47. With another increase of 110 spins, she will debut next week. They are impacting Lorde’s “Green Light” (Lava) this week. It is off to a tremendous start at Top 40.
Rick Sackheim and Noah Sheer at Def Jam see Big Sean’s “Moves” (G.O.O.D.) gain more than 200 spins, and climb inside the top 25. They also debut Jeremih f/Chris Brown’s “I Think Of You” this week at #34. It was up 165 spins. Bibi Bourelly’s “Ballin” comes in at #48, and right behind is 2 Chainz f/Gucci Mane & Quavo’s “Good Drank” at #49. Desiigner’s “Outlet” is off to a good start as it grabs 60 new spins this week.
Congrats go out to Columbia’s Ayelet Schiffman and James White for their hard work in helping The Chainsmokers earn five awards at this year’s iHeart Awards. Their current single “Paris” (Disruptor) comes in at #19, up 145 spins. Russ’ “Losin Control” moves to #22, thanks to an increase of 240 spins. They also debut Calvin Harris f/Frank Ocean and Migos’ “Slide” at #39. It is off to a tremendous start with an increase of 480 spins. Next up for them is Lecrae f/Ty Dolla $ign’s “Blessings.” It debuts this week on the Urban chart.
RCA’s Inca and Lori G continue to drive Chris Brown’s “Party” toward the top. It is at #5, gaining another 315 spins. Khalid’s “Location” (Right Hand Music) is up 190 spins, and it comes in at #16.
Capitol’s Greg Marella and Dixie Tipton continue to make noise with Katy Perry’s “Chained to the Rhythm.” The iTunes sales are still top 10. It comes in at #45 this week.
Glassnote’s Nick P is making sure no rock goes unturned in getting the Childish Gambino “Redbone” on radio. It is at #46 this week, up 30 spins. It is a multi-format record, with Urban AC and Urban building stories as well. The Shazam numbers where it gets played are very impressive.
Over at Warner Bros., Lee L’Heureux is impacting Jason Derulo’s “Swalla.” It’s a vintage Derulo track, and features Nicki Minaj and Ty Dolla $ign.
