Welcome back everyone, and happy 2017! I hope everyone had a chance to spend quality time with friends and family, and unplug for a week or a two. We are diving right back in, with a number of new releases out of the gate. The chart is still a little screwy, with the year-end countdowns finally behind us. By midweek the rotations and chart positions will be much more accurate.
It looks like Republic’s Drake will have yet another #1 record next week. “Fake Love” (YMCMB) was up over 400 spins, and sits at #2. Gary Spangler, Davey Dee, and Stef Cole look to be starting 2017 like they ended 2016. They also have Amine’s “Caroline” at #5, and The Weeknd f/Daft Punk’s “I Feel It Coming” (XO) at #12. This was up 250 spins. His other record, “Party Monster,” moves #23-#17, gaining 280 spins. ZAYN/Taylor Swift’s “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever” debuts this week at #32, and continues to make big waves at Top 40. Hailee Steinfeld’s “Starving” also debuts this week at #34. It was up 80 spins. They are impacting Ariana Grande f/Future’s “Everyday.” It is already at #64, and saw an increase of 115 spins. It’s safe to say she is now a core artist at the format.
Def Jam rolls into the new year with a lot of momentum as well. Rihanna’s “Love On the Brain” (Westbury Road/Roc Nation) is at #7, up another 150 spins. Big Sean’s “Bounce Back” (G.O.O.D.) climbs into the top 10, thanks to a 270 spin jump this week. Alessia Cara’s “Scars To Your Beautiful” leaps #19-#14, gaining 200 spins. They are impacting a new Big Sean this week titled “Moves.” I also want to send a big congrats out to Noah Sheer and his family on the birth of a baby girl! Hazel Ayla Sheer was born happy and healthy on Friday, 1/ 6!
Columbia’s Ayelet Schiffman and James White see Beyonce’s “All Night” leap #26-#21 this week, up triple digits. Be on the look out for a new Chainsmokers (Disruptor) track coming at the end of this week, as well as a new Russ track, “Losing Control,” coming in two weeks.
RCA’s Inca and Lori G have Rob $tone f/J Davi$ & Spooks’ “Chill Bill” at #11. They debut Chris Brown f/Usher & Gucci Mane’s “Party” at #37 this week; it was up a healthy 245 spins. Khalid’s “Location” is an important record to the label, and it just misses debuting at #41. It was up 80 spins, and is climbing the charts at Urban. Make sure you spend some time with this one! G-Eazy’s “Some Kind Of Drug” is on pace to debut next week. It lands at #43 this week.
Capitol’s Greg Marella and Dixie Tipton have their sights set on Top 10 with Trey Songz’ “Push It On Me.” It moves #14-#13, gaining 80 spins this week.
Epic’s Sujit Kundu has some records poised to make some big moves as well. Future f/Drake’s “Used To This” (A1/Freebandz) moves #33-#29, and Travis Scott’s “Goosebumps” debuts #35, thanks to a 125-spin increase. This record really has a nice buzz surrounding it. A Tribe Called Quest’s “We The People” comes in at #47, and they are impacting DJ Esco f/Future & Lil Uzi Vert’s “Too Much Sauce” this week.
