THE BALLSTREET JOURNAL

I hope everyone had a happy Martin Luther King holiday. It’s important to celebrate his life and take a minute to reflect on what he did for equality and human rights. We’re also in the heart of the NFL Playoffs, which has narrowed down to four teams all poised for the Conference Championships. Carolina has been dominant all year and the Cardinals have been too. New England looks healthy now (much to Lee L’Heureux and Todd Glassman’s chagrin) and will go up against Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos. It’s certainly been an up-and-down year for Manning, but a trip to the Super Bowl can put all that drama in the rearview mirror. Next weekend will definitely ruin two teams’ seasons.

In the music world, Epic’s Sujit Kundu is off to a red-hot start. as Travi$ Scott’s “Antidote” (Grand Hustle) remains the #1 record this week and Yo Gotti’s “Down in the DM” (CMG) jumps #21-13, up 550 spins. Puff Daddy & The Family’s “You Could Be My Lover” (Bad Boy) is up 85 spins and is a few weeks away from charting. Plus, Epic’s impacting Mack Wilds’ “Love in the 90z” this week.

Over at Republic, Drake & Future’s “Jumpman” (YMCMB/A1/Epic-Republic) is printing at #1 on the building chart, and was the Most Increased record this week. The Weeknd’s “In the Night” (XO) slides Top 5, up 400 spins. Belly f/The Weeknd’s “Might Not” (CP/Roc Nation) debuts at #37, gaining a cool 415 spins—there’s a great buzz on this artist and song. Gary Spangler, Davey Dee and Stef Cole are also impacting a new Post Malone record, “Too Young,” next week.

Rick Sackheim, Noah Sheer and Scott Maness at Def Jam have Justin Bieber’s “Sorry” (RBMG) at #3 this week. While it doesn’t look like this one will reach #1, Bieber’s current single “Love Yourself” sure looks strong. Not only is it Top 5 at Top 40, but it’s already #18 at Rhythm and up 490 spins. Jeremih’s “Oui” continues to develop as it moves inside the Top 25 this week. It tacks on another 285 spins and continues to pick up new believers. Fabolous’ “Doin’ It Well” just misses out on a debut, landing at #42. Kanye West f/Ty Dolla $’s “Real Friends” is up 150 spins, plus he dropped a hot new collabo with Kendrick Lamar called “No More Parties in L.A.” DJ Mustard f/Travi$ Scott’s “Whole Lotta Lovin” shoots to #70, a few weeks ahead of its impact.

John Strazza, Inca and Lori G at RCA have G-Eazy f/Bebe Rexha’s “Me, Myself, and I” rocketing up the chart. It’s up 545 spins and leaps #19-12. Bryson Tiller’s “Don’t” moves into the Top 15, increasing 260 spins, and Chris Brown’s “Back to Sleep” goes Top 20, gaining 300 spins. Kid Ink’s “Promise” blows onto the chart to land at #30 for the biggest debuting record this week; it’s up 620 spins and off to the races! Strazza is most certainly leaving RCA in a great spot as he moves on to RECORDS 2/1.

At Columbia, Ayelet Schiffman and James White have The Chainsmokers f/ROZES’ “Roses” (Disruptor) inside the Top 15 this week, growing by 330 spins. That one seems to be on the same trajectory it had at Top 40—straight to the top. They’re impacting The Internet f/Kaytranada’s cool slowjam “Girl” (Odd Future) this week. This song has a great buzz and looks to have a very solid first week. Adele’s “When We Were Young” (XL) and a new J. Cole record are also on the way.

Lee L’Heureux and Warner Bros. have Jason Derulo’s “Get Ugly” (Beluga Heights) at #23, up 280 spins. They also have Majid Jordan’s “Something About You” (OVO) up 85 spins, at #27.
