CROSSOVER
THE BALLSTREET JOURNAL

Republic’s Gary Spangler, Davey Dee and Stef Cole are sitting on top again this week with The Weeknd’s “Can’t Feel My Face” (XO), which was up 460 spins. It has a comfortable, nearly 1000-spin gain on the next record. Meanwhile, his new single, “The Hills,” was the biggest debut on the chart, and had an increase of 580 spins. That’s a combined 1030 new spins on him! I think it’s safe to say that The Weeknd is now a core artist for the format. Taylor Swift f/Kendrick Lamar’s “Bad Blood” (Big Machine) climbs #8-7, adding 175 spins to her total. They also have Sage The Gemini f/Nick Jonas’ “Good Thing” at #11, gaining 150 spins, and Natalie La Rose f/Fetty Wap’s “Around the World” at #15, tacking on 290 spins.

The #2 record belongs to Columbia, and Ayelet Schiffman and James White. OMI’s “Cheerleader” (Ultra) was up 535 spins and is next in line to inherit the #1 throne in a few weeks. Samantha J’s “League of My Own” slides into the #30 position, up 95 spins. They’re impacting Dej Loaf f/Big Sean’s “Back Up” this week; it already has a number of early supporters, including WJMN Boston, KUUU Salt Lake City, WRCL Flint, KOPW Omaha and SiriusXM’s The Heat. They’ve got new tracks from J. Cole and Juicy J coming shortly as well.

John Strazza, Inca and Lori G take Kid Ink f/Dej Loaf’s “Be Real” #5-4 this week. They just miss charting with Miguel’s “Coffee” (#41), which was up 75 spins. R. City f/Adam Levine’s “Locked Away” had another solid week, up triple-digits. And Prince Royce f/Pitbull & Jennifer Lopez’s “Back It Up” moves inside the Top 50, and looks to debut in the next few weeks. They’re impacting Chris Brown’s “Liquor” this week; it’s already debuted at Urban, and moves to #33 this week at that format.

Def Jam’s Rick Sackhiem, Noah Sheer and Scott Maness are heating up. They have Big Sean f/Kanye West & John Legend’s “One Man Can Change the World” at #21, gaining 235 spins this week. Jeremih f/J. Cole’s “Planes” adds an additional 160 spins and moves to #28. Afrojack’s “SummerThing!” is now inside the Top 50, while YG’s “Twist My Fingaz” has quite an impressive week, gaining 160 spins. They’re impacting Alessia Cara’s “Here” this week; it’s seeing multiple format support already.

Epic’s Sujit Kundu has Fifth Harmony f/Kid Ink’s “Worth It” sliding to #17. This record has been on the chart for 19 weeks, and it’s still growing. Casey Veggies’ “Tied Up” moves to #44 this week. The jump of the week comes from Future f/Drake’s “Where Ya At” (A1/Freebandz); it leaps #174-51, up 250 spins, and looks to debut next week. His sales were amazing as well, as the album debuted at #1.

Lee L’Heureux and Warner Bros. have Jason Derulo’s “Cheyenne” (Beluga Heights) at #26, adding 140 spins this week. Nico & Vinz f/Kid Ink’s “That’s How You Know” ascends to #60, tacking on another 170 spins. It’s still very early, but there’s a solid buzz on that one.

Also, make sure you check out the remix of Janet Jackson’s “No Sleeep,” which features J. Cole. It really adds some flavor and soul to the record.
