The Ballstreet Journal: R You Listening?
Republic and RCA Continue Their Reign at Rhythm

The latest Mediabase chart-share numbers came out last week, and Gary Spangler and Davey Dee at Republic were at the top. They had a 22.6 share, followed by John Strazza, Inca and Lori G at RCA with a 19.7 share. Def Jam is third with 13.2. Columbia is fifth and Warner Bros. is seventh. This is a running total throughout the year, and I will continue to keep you up to date. It seems very impressive that Republic and RCA command over 42% of the chart, although I’m sure things will have a way of leveling themselves out. However, it won’t happen this week, as once again, Republic and RCA rule the Top 10.

Nicki Minaj f/Drake & Lil Wayne’s “Truffle Butter” (YMCMB/Republic) stays at #1 this week, while Natalie La Rose f/Jeremih’s “Somebody” (IMG) moves to #3, up 650 spins. The Weeknd’s “Earned It” adds another 740 spins and maintains its position at #7. Labelmate Ariana Grande leaps #18-13 with “One Last Time,” adding 325 spins, and Kalin & Myles’ “Trampoline” hits #20, gaining 160 spins. Nick Jonas’ “Chains” (Island) is at #28 and adds 210 spins. Taylor Swift’s “Style” (Big Machine) is up 115 spins. They’re impacting Tove Lo’s “Talking Body” (Island) this week, which is at #55.

As for RCA, Strazza, Inca and Lori have Chris Brown & Tyga’s “Ayo” at #2, up 680 spins. On the building chart, it’s at #1. They also have Pitbull f/Ne-Yo’s “Time of Our Lives,” Mark Ronson f/Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk” and Usher f/Juicy J’s “I Don’t Mind”; that’s 6 of the 10 records between both labels. Kid Ink f/Chris Brown’s “Hotel” moves #17-14, up 165 spins, while Tinashe f/Iggy Azalea’s “All Hands on Deck” is at #27, gaining 270 spins.

Ayelet Schiffman and James White at Columbia debut Snoop Dogg’s “Peaches and Cream” this week at #40, as it gains 220 spins. They also have Calvin Harris f/Big Sean’s “Open Wide” at #26 and T.I. f/Chris Brown’s “Private Show” at #31, adding 130 spins. TK & Cash’s “Mind Right” moves to #39. They also have the soundtrack to Empire, the hit television show, which was the #1 selling album this past week. They’re impacting “You’re So Beautiful” this coming week, which is already seeing spins at WPOW, KBXX, and WZMX.

Def Jam’s Rick Sackhiem, Noah Sheer and Scott Maness are the proud owners of a Top 5 record with Rihanna f/Kanye West & Paul McCartney’s “FourFiveSeconds” (Roc Nation); it was up 130 spins this week. Big Sean f/Drake & Kanye West’s “Blessings” climbs to #12, gaining 275 spins, while Ludacris’ “Good Lovin” inches its way to #16, up 65 spins. Kanye West’s “All Day” explodes this week, going #25-17, while increasing over 600 spins.

Epic’s Sujit Kundu has Ciara’s “I Bet” at #32, increasing 60 spins. He also has Fifth Harmony’s “Worth It” (SYCO), which debuted at #34, up 175 spins. Jidenna’s “Classic Man” climbs to #48, and Future’s “Commas” is now at #50. They’re impacting Tink’s “Rachet Commandments” this week.

Lee L’Heureux and Warner Bros. are off to a great start with Jason Derulo’s “Want to Want Me” (Beluga Heights), which vaults #35-23 this week, increasing an amazing 725 spins. It was also one of the Most Increased at Pop.

Bob Weil and RAL have Jordin Sparks f/2 Chainz’s “Double Tap,” which just misses out on debuting this week, as it works its way to #41, up 70 spins.
