What an ending to the Super Bowl! I don’t care if you’re a diehard fanatic or a casual viewer; the last two minutes of that game will certainly go down in recent history as the most exciting and controversial play calling we will see. Why Seattle didn’t run the ball from the one-yard line with a time-out left is beyond me. And throwing the ball at the goal line just opens you up to so many bad things, like, say, that interception. Let us also not forget that they gave up a 10-point fourth quarter lead with one of the best defenses in the NFL. Either way, hindsight is always 20/20.
Congrats go out to Todd Glassman and Lee L’Heureux and all of the New England Patriots fans. As for the Seahawks, it’s back to the drawing board and an offseason of “what ifs” and “should haves.”
Katy Perry’s halftime show was pretty impressive. I wasn’t expecting to see Missy Elliott out there, but it was a pleasant surprise. And Lenny Kravitz was his usual charismatic self. All in all, I felt it was a very entertaining game from beginning to end…
Speaking of music, RCA is still on fire as Strazza, Inca and Lori G have Mark Ronson f/Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk” at #3 on the chart, up another 930 spins. This is the third consecutive week Ronson’s been up over 900 spins while inside the Top 10. The track has a legit shot at taking the #1 slot away from labelmate “I Don’t Mind” f/Juicy J. In addition, they have Pitbull f/Ne-Yo’s “Time of Our Lives” at #9, gaining another 435 spins. Chris Brown & Tyga’s “Ayo” leaps #18-12, up 565 spins, and Prince Royce f/Snoop Dogg’s “Stuck on a Feeling” hits #18, increasing 250 spins. Finally, they’ve debuted Kid Ink f/Chris Brown’s “Hotel” at #39…
Def Jam drops Big Sean f/Drake’s new track, “Blessings,” which impacts this week. They also have Rihanna, Kanye West & Paul McCartney’s “FourFiveSeconds” debuting at #28 this week, making it the largest debuting record. It was up 1165 spins! Wait until they play it on the Grammys. Meanwhile, Kanye West f/Paul McCartney’s “Only One” hits #30, gaining 285 spins. Ludacris f/Miguel’s “Good Lovin” moves to #31 this week, adding 145 spins. Logic’s “Buried Alive” is at #50, up triple-digits and looking to debut in the next few weeks. And they’re impacting Jeremih’s “Planes” in a few weeks…
The crew at Republic is juggling a number of hits, as Nick Jonas’ “Jealous” moves into the Top 5 with an increase of 450 spins and Nicki Minaj f/Drake, Lil Wayne & Chris Brown’s “Only” moves to #6. Her other track, “Truffle Butter” f/Drake and Lil Wayne, is up 525 spins and moves #19-13. Natalie La Rose f/Jeremih’s “Somebody” climbs seven spots to #17 this week, up 490 spins, and The Weeknd’s “Earned It” debuts at #34, gaining 280 spins. Look for Kalin and Myles’ “Trampoline” to debut this coming week, as it moves to #42, while gaining over 250 spins…
Sujit Kundu and Team Epic have Grammy nominee Meghan Trainor’s “Lips Are Movin” at #41 this week and Casey Veggies f/YG & IAMSU’s “Backflip” at #46. They also have Ciara’s “I Bet” gaining 165 spins and climbing to #56…
Lee L’Heureux and Warner Bros. are gearing up for O.B. O’Brien f/ Drake & P. Reign’s “Schemin Up,” which will be impacting in the next few weeks... Glassnote’s Nick P has Childish Gambino’s “Sober” moving #38-36 with new commitments from stations like KQKS Denver this week. This is a slow builder, but it’s working where played.
