CROSSOVER
This is a busy week for Rhythm format heads. Tuesday marks the Radio One meetings in D.C., while Wednesday and Thursday will see the Clear Channel meetings in New York. Most every label will be represented at both, as radio station PDs and MDs from the chains come in to check out new music and gear up for Q4. I’ll be giving you all the highlights, along with pictures, in next week’s column… Am I imagining things, or did YMCMB/Republic’s Nicki Minaj drop four records in the last week? She’s on Beyoncé’s "Flawless" remix, Rae Sremmurd’s "No Flex Zone" remix, "Bang Bang" with Jessie J and Ariana Grande, and Usher's "She Came to Give It to You," and she has a brand new single, "Anaconda." How do you schedule it all?... RCA‘s looking to switch out #1s this coming week. They currently have Tinashe f/ScHoolboy Q’s “2 On” at the top, with Kid Ink’s “Main Chick” at #2, battling for #1. John Strazza, Inca and Lori G also have Magic!’s “Rude” at #7, up 225 spins, as well as Chris Brown f/Usher & Rick Ross’ “New Flame” at #23 with an increase of 415 spins, Usher f/Nicki Minaj’s “She Came to Give It to You” debuting at #30, gaining 330 spins, and Becky G’s “Shower” at #34. Just outside the chart, they’ve got Jacob Lattimore’s “Heartbreak Heard Around the World” and G-Eazy’s “I Mean It.”… Def Jam takes Jeremih f/YG’s “Don’t Tell ’Em” into the Top 5 this week, increasing an amazing 800 spins. Rick Sackhiem, Noah Sheer and Scott Maness also have August Alsina’s “Numb” sitting at #14, Iggy Azalea f/Rita Ora’s “Black Widow” moving #23-18 and Jeezy f/Jay Z’s “Seen It All” sitting at #43… Gary Spangler and Davey Dee at Republic have Lil Wayne f/Drake’s “Believe Me” at #4, Nicki Minaj’s “Pills N Potions” at #11, Ariana Grande f/Zedd’s “Break Free” in the Top 25 and Jessie J + Ariana Grande + Nicki Minaj’s “Bang Bang,” debuting after one week at #37, gaining 550 spins. They also have Drake’s “0-100,” Rich Gang f/Young Thug’s “Lifestyle” and Kiesza’s “Hideaway” just outside of the chart… Columbia’s Ayelet Schiffman and James White have T.I. f/Iggy Azalea’s “No Mediocre,” moving #15-12, as well as Pharrell Williams’ “Come Get It Bae” at #17. Look for John Legend’s “You and I” to debut in the next week or so, as well as T. Mills’ “All I Wanna Do.” They also have Beyoncé’s aforementioned “Flawless” remix, f/Nicki Minaj, that’s really starting to buzz… Sujit Kundu and Epic gain some traction as they take TeeFlii’s “24 Hours” inside the Top 20 this week. They also have Lil Jon f/Tyga’s “Bend Ova” at #26, and are impacting Bobby Shmurda’s “Hot Boy” this week… Lee L’Heureux and team Warner Bros. have Nico & Vinz at #3, up 500 spins, and knocking on the #1 door. It’ll be a dogfight for this coming week. Team Warner Bros. are set to impact the next Jason Derulo track, “Trumpets,” on 8/18, while Fences f/Macklemore’s “Arrows” is creating a real buzz… And be on the lookout for Childish Gambino’s follow-up to the #8 record “3005.” Nick P and Glassnote are impacting “Telegraph Ave” in two weeks, and it’s starting to gather mix shows as we speak.
