CROSSOVER
August is nearly here, signaling that summer’s coming to an end. With only five months left in 2013, here’s a quick breakdown of label chart share for Rhythm radio. These numbers are through June. IDJ holds the #1 spot, with RCA not far behind. Republic is #4, WB is #6, followed by Columbia and Epic. There’s still time to make a move, and Q4 is obviously vital as labels jockey for airplay to help bolster holiday sales. RCA is #1 overall (all formats), with IDJ third and Republic #4… The Summer Arbitron numbers continue to roll in, and there were certainly some winners this book, like Mark Feather and Tony Tecate at KWYD Boise (side note: Congrats to Tony for landing the morning-show gig there). J Reed at KISV Bakersfield also had a very strong book, as did WLTO in Lexington… Well, nothing changes in the Top 5, as all the records hold the same position. This is a big week for Columbia and Daft Punk as Ayelet and James White target this week to go #1; let’s see what they can do. They also take J. Cole inside the top 10 with “Crooked Smile,” which vaults #14-9, and Calvin Harris “I Need Your Love” to #21… The other new entry into the top 10 was Ciara “Body Party” (Epic). Rachael Spangler and Dixie Tipton also debut Yo Gotti “Act Right” at #36. We’d like to welcome Epic’s new Head of Promotion Todd Glassman, a DIEHARD Boston sports fan. Todd, remember all of those Ravens/Ray Lewis murderer jokes you had for me?! I hope you and Lee L’Heureux exchanged your Hernandez jerseys for a TebowIDJ has momentum with Jay Z’s “Holy Grail,” which jumps from #17 to #12 and is up 539 spins. Rick Sackhiem, Noah Sheer and Scott Maness also have the Rihanna “Right Now” at #17, 2 Chainz “Feds Watching” at #24, Big Sean “Beware” at #29 (and up over 250 spins), with Iggy Azalea “Work,” Kaptn “Ricky Ricardo” and Kanye West “Black Skinhead” moving up towards the chart… Gary Spangler, Alisa Applegate, and Davey Dee at Republic have Rich Gang “Tap Out” inside the Top 25, and Jay Sean “Mars” going #38-34 this week. They’re also the proud owners of the biggest debut this week in Nelly “Get Like Me,” which debuts at #32, as well as Enrique “Turn The Night Up.” Look for this to chart in the coming week. Next week they’ll impact Ariana Grande “Baby I,” a great follow up to her Top 3 debut single… Lee L’Heureux at WB has Macklemore sitting at #4 and poised to move up again this week. In addition, Lee has Jason Derulo “The Other Side” at #15 and up almost 200x… The two greatest gainers this week belong to team RCA. Strazza, Inca, and Lori G debut Chris Brown “Love More” at #40, up 549 spins. They also have Justin Timberlake “Take Back The Night” #25-18 and up 539 spins, good enough for #2 most increased. Then there’s Miley Cyrus “We Can’t Stop” at #30, Mario “Somebody Else” at #33, and Fantasia “Without Me” at #37. Pitbull “Outta Nowhere” and Becky G “Play It Again” are both inside the Top 50 and looking to make the chart this coming week.
