CROSSOVER
I attended the Promo Only “Summer Sessions” convention and awards last week in Atlantic City. It focused more on the dance side of Rhythm radio, with a panel discussion geared towards dance mix shows. There was, however, a panel on Rhythm radio that included Buster from WRDW Philly and Orlando from WLLD Tampa, and was hosted by Ayelet Schiffman of Columbia records and Jill Strada from WFLC Miami. There was also a cool listening session with Dillon Francis, during which he spoke about his new LP and played a number of tracks. It was nice to see some old faces, and meet new ones like DJ Digital from KHXT Lafayette… On Friday, I was in the Detroit area visiting WDZH. I had dinner with Rayne and Ian, and then saw Clay Church and Ricky from WRCL; I had to give them all a quick golf lesson… Before we get into music, I’d like to wish Sujit Kundu a very happy birthday. He had his usual big-ass party last night in New York, and I’m sure the Tequila was flowing… Something unusual happened this week: Def Jam’s Jeremih not only leapfrogged the #3 and #2 records with “Don’t Tell ‘Em” f/YG, but was also the Greatest Gainer while going to #1. The track was up 730 spins, and is still on the ascent. Big congrats to Rick Sackhiem, Noah Sheer and Scott Maness. They also have Iggy Azalea f/Rita Ora’s “Black Widow,” moving #14-12, up nearly 350 spins. Jeezy f/Jay Z’s “Seen It All” is just outside the chart and looks to debut this coming week… Gary Spangler and Davey Dee at Republic have Ariana Grande f/Zedd’s “Break Free” at #17, Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda,” slithering #32-20 and gaining 695 spins, Jessie J + Ariana Grande + Nicki Minaj’s “Bang Bang” at #26, and Drake’s “0-100,” moving #36-29, up 435 spins. They impacted DJ Khaled’s “Hold You Down” last week, and it’s up 220 spins at #62. Just outside the chart, they’ve got Rich Gang f/Young Thug & Rich Homie Quan’s “Lifestyle” and Enrique Iglesias f/Descemer Bueno, Sean Paul & Gente De Zona’s “Bailando.” They also have Kiesza’s “Hideaway” bubbling under the chart, and they impact The Weeknd’s “Often” this week… John Strazza, Inca and Lori G have three records in the Top 10: Kid Ink’s “Main Chick,” Tinashe f/ScHoolboy Q’s “2 On” and Magic!’s “Rude.” They also have Chris Brown f/Usher & Rick Ross’ “New Flame” at #14, gaining over 400 spins. Meanwhile, Usher f/Nicki Minaj’s “She Came to Give It to You” is at #32. Look for Pitbull f/John Ryan’s “Fireball” to debut this coming week. It currently sits at #52, up over 150 spins… Ayelet Schiffman and James White take T.I. f/Iggy Azalea’s “No Mediocre” into the Top 10 this week. It’s been a steady builder, and was up 240 spins. John Legend’s “You and I” just missed charting, and will debut this coming week. T. Mills’ “All I Wanna Do” is at #47… Birthday boy Sujit Kundu and Team Epic continue to see success. TeeFlii’s “24 Hours” slides #15-13, up 250 spins. Lil Jon f/Tyga’s “Bend Ova” climbs #25-21, and Meghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass” is a huge buzz record. It’s at #49 this week and, with the addition of a number of stations, could debut this coming week. They also have Bobby Shmurda’s “Hot Boy,” which is at #56… Glassnote’s Nick P and staff impact Childish Gambino’s “Telegraph Ave” this week. It’s the follow-up to the #8 hit “3005,” and early supporters include WRDW Philly and KSFM Sacramento, among others… Warner Bros. and Lee L’Heureux impact Jason Derulo’s new track, “Trumpets,” this week. It’s already sold 500k at iTunes and is sure to be another hit for him. Look for it to have a very strong first week.
