CROSSOVER
Welcome back to reality, everyone! Back to waking up early, being yelled at by your bosses and attempting to keep your New Year’s resolutions for at least half of January. It’s a new year, and with that comes new music and new artists. So shake off that 2013 hangover and get ready for a promising and exciting 2014. Because of year-end countdowns, etc., it’s nearly impossible to give an accurate road map of where a lot of the songs are going. Also, many stations will be getting research for the first time in about a month, so don’t be surprised to see records that may be down bouncing back up, as well as established records taking a hit because of poor callout. But there are a few tracks in particular that have solid traction and are looking like they’ll flourish in the next several weeks. Beyoncé f/Jay Z’s “Drunk in Love” (Columbia) was the Most Increased last week, and should have another very impressive week. Katy Perry f/Juicy J’s “Dark Horse” (Capitol) is also on the fast track, as it continues to build momentum. YG f/Jeezy & Rich Homie Quan’s “My Hitta” (Def Jam/IDJ) has been a consistent performer since it dropped, and looks to continue its climb up the chart. Kid Ink f/Chris Brown’s “Show Me” (RCA) is poised to be the next #1 record, as soon as Eminem drops off. Pitbull f/Ke$ha’s “Timber” (RCA) is now inside the Top 10, moving towards the Top 5. Notable new records include Jason Derulo f/2 Chainz’ “Talk Dirty” (WB), which impacts this week and should chart this coming week, as well as Chris Brown f/Lil Wayne’s “Loyal” (RCA). Beyoncé also has “XO,” which is officially on the chart and gathering new stations each week. Lorde’s “Team” (Republic) officially impacts this week, and this too is already on the chart. As the chart begins to shore itself up the next 7-10 days, I’ll give a more detailed breakdown of where everything stands. I’ll also include all of the upcoming releases for the next month or so.
