CROSSOVER
I spent this past weekend at the iHeartRadio Ultimate Pool Party. It brought me back to the days of R&R conventions—only with a cast entirely composed of Clear Channel radio people. Most every label was in attendance. I attended the Ariana Grande listening party Friday evening. The music was what you’d expect: that perfect Pop/Rhythm sound that has her #1 at Pop and #2 at Rhythm as I type this. She was there, looking amazing (as you’d also expect). Republic hosted a Saturday dinner to introduce everyone to their new artist, Madison Beer. After dinner was the pool party, which was hosted by Nick Cannon and Katy Tiz. Magic! performed, as did Jennifer Lopez and Neon Trees. It was a typical hot and humid Miami night, but it went off without a hitch, and the crowd was definitely into it. Overall, it was a very well-attended event and a great opportunity to see old friends and meet some new ones… Congrats to Glassnote and Nick P for being the first independent label to take a record Top 10 this year. Childish Gambino’s “3005” hit that milestone this week, up nearly 300 spins, and has its sights set on the Top 5. Their persistence certainly paid off… Republic is poised to take Ariana Grande’s “Problem” #1 this coming week. It’s currently #1 on the building chart. Gary and Davey Dee also have Lil Wayne f/Drake’s “Believe Me” entering the Top 10 at #9, up 460 spins. Nicki Minaj’s “Pills N Potions” goes #14-12, while Adrian Marcel is at #19. Sage the Gemini’s “College Drop” holds at #30, and Tiësto’s “Wasted” looks to be a week away from charting… Def Jam‘s really heating up as well, on the heels of a five-week run at #1 with Iggy Azalea. Her new track “Black Widow” f/Rita Ora, just missed the chart; it’ll be the biggest debuting record next week. YG f/Drake’s “Who Do You Love” makes it into the Top 5 this week, and August Alsina’s “Numb” continues to climb, going to #23 this week. He was a multiple-award winner at the BET Awards, and has plenty of momentum. They also have Jeremih f/Drake’s “Don’t Tell Em” leaping #33-25 this week, up over 400 spins. Afrojack f/Wrabel’s “Ten Feet Tall” sits at #49… Ayelet Schiffman and James White at Columbia have Calvin Harris’ “Summer” jumping to #11 this week, up 200 spins. Meanwhile, Pharrell Williams’ “Come Get It Bae” is at #20. They’re also the proud owner of a double debut: T.I. f/Iggy Azalea’s “No Mediocre” comes in at #34, gaining 390 spins, and Beyoncé’s “Pretty Hurts” debuts at #36, up 144 spins… Warner Bros. has two red-hot tracks racing up the charts; Jason Derulo f/Snoop Dogg’s “Wiggle” is at #4 and up 300 spins, and Nico & Vinz’s “Am I Wrong” vaults #21-15, up an incredible 719 spins! Both records are selling through the roof… John Strazza, Inca and Lori G at RCA have Tinashe f/ScHoolboy Q’s “2 On” at #3 this week, also the Greatest Gainer inside the Top 10. They have Kid Ink f/Chris Brown’s “Main Chick” moving #8-6. Meanwhile, they’re impacting Jacob Lattimore f/T-Pain’s “Heartbreak Heard All Around the World” this week. And just yesterday, they released a new Chris Brown track, entitled “New Flame” f/Usher and Rick Ross. It’s been getting a tremendous response… Epic has TeeFlii’s “24 Hours” climbing the charts, going to #28 this week. They’re impacting Future f/Kanye West’s “I Won” this week and Gipp f/CeeLo Green’s “Shine Like Gold” in two weeks.
