Man, how time flies! This is my 20th column as
HITS’ Rhythm Editor. I am still happy and healthy, and have managed to keep my job! Here’s to another 20. Before I get into record news, I should say that new
Arbitron numbers are starting to come out; I wanted to congratulate a few stations:
Kage and
Burhman at
KQKS, DJ Buck at
WZMX,
Mike Kline and
Shaggy at
WNVZ, KMEL, and
Homie Marco and the staff at
KBBT in San Antonio all had very impressive books… The big just continue to get bigger. Over the last five weeks,
J. Cole’s
“Crooked Smile,”
Robin Thicke’s
“Blurred Lines,”
Macklemore’s
“Same Love” and
Daft Punk have all been among the most increased records. It’s no secret, as “Blurred Lines” holds the #1 position, Daft Punk jumps 5-2*, and “Same Love” goes to #7 and sits at #4 on this week’s building chart already. There are a few newcomers to the party;
Jay-Z’s “Holy Grail” and
Justin Timberlake’s “Take Back The Night” had amazing weeks.
Rick Sackhiem,
Noah Sheer and
Scott Maness at
IDJ keep their momentum as “Holy Grail” had the biggest jump on the chart, going #35-23, as well as being the #1 most increased record. They also have
Rihanna’s “Right Now” at #20 and
2 Chainz’s “Feds Watching” at #26.
Big Sean’s “Beware” and
Iggy Azalea’s “Work” are looking to make their chart debuts next week. The
Republic crew of
Gary Spangler, Alisa Applegate and
Davey Dee have
Ariana Grande’s “The Way” sitting at #3,
DJ Khaled’s “No New Friends” at #12,
Lil Wayne’s “Rich As …” at #16,
Rich Gang’s “Tap Out” at #21 and
Jay Sean’s “Mars” at #37. They also have
Ace Hood’s “We Ouchea” and
Nelly’s “Get Like Me” poised to chart this coming week… The fine folks at
RCA deliver a brand new
Justin Timberlake’s “Take Back The Night.” It’s #27 on the building chart, and should debut inside the top 25 this coming week.
Strazz,
Inca and
Lori G also debuted
Miley Cyrus’ “We Can’t Stop” at #35 and
Pitbull’s
“Outta Nowhere” at #40 this week. And be aware of both the
Mario’s “Somebody Else” and
Becky G’s
“Play It Again,” both inside the top 50 and looking to debut this coming week. Strazz confirms that NEXT Monday there will be a brand new
Chris Brown f/Nicki Minaj, “Love More”… Can Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” make it to #1?
Ayelet and
James White at
Columbia have it sitting at #2 this week and feel like their window of opportunity is two weeks away. They also have J. Cole’s “Crooked Smile” shooting up the chart, now at #18 and again Top 5 most increased. Lastly, they have
Calvin Harris’ “I Need Your Love” at #22…
Lee L’Heureux at
WB is quick to point out that he has 4 records inside the top 20, with two
Macklemore hits,
Major Lazer’s “Bubble Butt” and
Jason Derulo’s “The Other Side” …
Epic is proving hard work and persistence pay off with
Sean Kingston’s “Beat It,” which is inside the top 10, as well as
Ciara’s “Body Party,” which moves 15-13*.
Rachael Spangler and
Dixie also have
Yo Gotti’s “Act Right” sitting just outside of the chart.
