U.K. CHARTS: ELTON TOPPLES ED

Elton John and Dua Lipa have ended Ed Sheeran's 15-week reign on the U.K.'s Official Singles Chart, while Sam Fender has earned his second #1 album.

Elton and Dua’s “Cold Heart” (EMI/Warner Records) moves up one place to claim the top spot today after three consecutive weeks at #2. The track shifted 64k chart sales this week, including 5.9m streams and 5k copies on limited edition CD.

It’s John’s eighth #1 single in the U.K. and first in 16 years, a feature on 2Pac’s posthumous 2005 single, “Ghetto Gospel” (Interscope). Lipa, meanwhile, earns her third #1.

Former Little Mix-er Jesy Nelson claims this week’s highest new singles entry with her solo debut, “Boyz” f/Nicki Minaj (Polydor), at #4.

Elsewhere in the Top 20, there are new peaks for Becky Hill and Topic’s “My heart Goes (La Di Da)” (Polydor) at #13, “Love Tonight” (ONELOVE) by Shouse at #18—their first Top 20 hit—and “Meet Me At Our Spot” (Polydor) at #19 by The Anxiety aka Willow Smith and Tyler Cole.

Dermot Kennedy climbs two to #24 with “Better Days” (Island) while Sam Fender scores his first U.K. Top 40 single with “Seventeen Going Under” flying into the chart at #26 following the release of his chart-topping second album.

On the U.K.'s Official Albums Chart, Fender’s Seventeen Going Under (Polydor) hits #1 on 44k sales. He has scored the biggest albums opening week of 2021 in the U.K. and outsold the rest of the Top 10 combined. Of Seventeen Going Under’s 44k sales, 79% were physical.

James Blake has a career best with Friends That Break Your Heart (Polydor) debuting at #4, while Adele’s 25 (XL) jumps 21 places to #6 following the arrival of her new single and album release date. 21 also rises 34 places to #14.

Outside the Top 10, Justin Bieber’s Justice (EMI) rises 44 places to #17 with the release of its expanded Complete Edition, and Trivium’s In the Court of the Dragon (Roadrunner) opens at #20.
