AIM HONOURS DILLINGER
PRIOR TO EXIT
8/2/17

U.S. metal act The Dillinger Escape Plan will be honoured with the Outstanding Contribution to Music Award at the AIM Awards in Blighty on 9/5 for their “unparalleled live performances, awards and accolades and ultra-loyal legion of fans.” The band will be officially retiring after the end of their current tour later this year.

TDEP join Steve Beckett of Warp Records as pre-announced winners for September’s ceremony. Nominees for awards covering best independent label, breakthrough act of the year, and track, album and video will be revealed later in August.

Since forming in 1997, The Dillinger Escape Plan have released five studio albums and four EPs via labels including Relapse, Season of Mist, BMG and Cooking Vinyl.

Discussing the AIM accolade, founding member Ben Weinman praised independent labels like Rough Trade, Megaforce and Sub Pop for “being responsible for cultural evolution.” He continued:

“[Independent labels] are responsible for launching the careers of some of the most important and influential artists of all time. AIM’s support of the U.K.’s independent music community is not only an important part of our current musical climate but of history in general. We couldn’t be more proud to be honoured by such an amazing organization.”

Merlin Alderslade, Editor of Metal Hammer and AIM Awards judge added: “The Dillinger Escape Plan have trail-blazed their way through an incredible career that has united alternative music fans from all walks of life. The AIM awards are about recognising music crafted in the true spirit of independence, and I couldn’t think of a more fitting band to walk on stage to accept this award than Dillinger. Horns up!”
