Tom Odell’s new album Wrong Crowd (Columbia) and a second new single from The Stone Roses, “Beautiful Thing” (Virgin EMI) are amongst the new releases already making an impact in Blighty today. Odell is #2 on the iTunes albums chart, while “Beautiful Thing” is #1 at singles.
The Stone Roses’ comeback was met with much furor back in May, but first single “All for One” failed to make a significant impact, peaking at #17 on the U.K. Official Singles Chart, with very little radio support. Will “Beautiful Thing” fare any better?
Odell’s Wrong Crowd is the follow-up to his million-selling debut, Long Way Down, which hit #1 in the U.K. in June 2013, after he’d had won the BRITs Critics’ Choice gong. Promo has spanned both sides of the Atlantic, with gigs at New York’s Mercury Lounge on 5/4 and L.A.’s Masonic Lodge at Hollywood Forever Cemetery on 5/6, followed by appearances on Fallon and the The Late Late Show.
In the U.K., Odell played a very well-received intimate gig at Islington’s Assembly Hall on 4/5, with radio sessions for Virgin and Radio X, and an interview on BBC Radio 1’s Breakfast Show this morning. Odell will also play Graham Norton’s BBC 1 TV show tonight. Stay tuned for the midweek numbers on Monday.
