ADELE, "PILL" EXTEND STAYS AT U.K. #1
3/25/16

Bring on your challengers, Adele’s 25 is telling the U.K. We don’t care if they’re young upstarts or established veterans. Let’s have at ‘em!

This week, XL’s Adele fended off BMG’s James to claim #1 for the 12th non-consecutive week on the U.K.’s Official Albums Chart. The Mancunian band’s 14th album, Girl at the End of the World, took #2, being denied their first #1 in 18 years.

Another old-timer, Caroline’s Iggy Pop, debuts at #5 with Post Pop Depression, his collaboration with Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme. It is Pop’s first Top 10 in the U.K.

And just as we expect Adele to be #1, the Top 5 continues to include Def Jam’s Justin Bieber’s Purpose (#3) and Jess Glynne’s I Cry When I Laugh (Atlantic U.K.) at #4.

Meanwhile, Mike Posner’s “I Took a Pill in Ibiza (Seeb Remix)” (Island) held onto the #1 slot for the second week, with 82K combined sales—including 4.1m streams—11,000 ahead of #2, Warner Bros.Lukas Graham’s “7 Years.”

Epic/SYCO’s Fifth Harmony matched the peak position of last year’s “Worth It” as “Work From Home” inching up to #3. Epic/Record Company 10’s Zara Larsson’s “Lush Life” is at #4.

Ministry of Sound’s Sigala’s “Say You Do” jumped 39 slots to hit #5; Sia’s “Cheap Thrills” (Monkey Puzzle/RCA) skipped eight places to #8 and Tinie Tempah and Zara Larsson’s “Girls Like” (Parlophone) bumped up a spot to #9.

Beyond Iggy and James, it appears old ravers and rockers were in a spending mood last week as Caroline/Smith Hyde’s Underworld debuts at #10 with their first album in six years, Barbara Barbara We Face A Shining Future, Primal Scream’s Chaosmosis (First International) takes #12 and Gwen Stefani’s third solo album This Is What The Truth Feels Like (Interscope) comes in at #14.

Further down the chart, Sony Classical’s soundtrack to Batman vs Superman - Dawn of Justice from Hans Zimmer & Junkie beams in at #31, Room 94's Lost Youth (Shipwreck) slides in at #33 and IRL’s The Wonder Stuff’s 30 Goes Around The Sun is orbiting #38.

Back on the Singles Chart, Blonde & Craig David’s “Nothing Like This” (Parlophone) at #17; Joe Jonas’ DNCE (Republic) hoofed it up five places as “Cake By The Ocean” sailed to # 21; and DisruptorsChainsmokers’ “Roses” makes its Top 40 debut 12 weeks after release at #33.
