WHAT IT IS: Peter $un, aka Sunny, embodies the underdog mentality through boundless self-expression in his music and art. The L.A.-based Richmond native’s inspirations span from the gritty regional styles of Pusha T and Clipse to the melodic, soul-driven sounds of D’Angelo, Pharrell and The Neptunes. On the heels of his critically acclaimed album, Scumbaby, the emerging indie hip-hop artist and Mind of a Genius partnered with Red Bull Records in 2021 and are now gearing up to drop his debut EP in June. $un enlisted longtime collaborator Blue Rondo (Young Thug, IDK) to help sonically define the project, which will feature his forthcoming single, “Pay Me No Mind,” due on 6/3.
