WHAT IT IS: After starting out as a writer/producer, 25-year-old Capella Grey dropped two projects last year, Yea Nah I’m Out and The Quarantape Vibe 1., before releasing the buzzworthy single “GYALIS,” which samples Juvenile’s “Back That Azz Up” and incorporates Gray’s Jamaican roots. Since its release in January, “GYALIS” has secured the top position on Apple Music’s Top 25: New York City playlist and hit #1 on both the N.Y. Shazam chart and SoundCloud’s U.S. Top 50 R&B chart. The self-taught musician also earned co-signs from Kranium, Kehlani, Remy Ma, Dave East and fellow Uptown Bronx rapper A Boogie Wit da Hoodie, who recently lent his bars to a remix of the track.
