WHAT IT IS: Fast-rising rapper Night Lovell, born Shermar Paul, explores the depths of his voice on his latest 14-track album, Just Say You Don’t Care, which dropped months after he inked with indie rap label G*59 Records. Pushing his woozy, atmospheric melodies forward, Lovell has embraced a dark and mysterious style since his 2016 debut album, Red Teenage Melody. The Canadian rapper/producer grew up in a musical environment as the son of rapper MC Renegade, adopting the moniker Night Lovell in 2013 and releasing a string of projects. Just Say You Don’t Care, the follow-up to 2019’s Goodnight Lovell, includes the singles “Alone,” “Counting Down the List” and “Bottom Top.”
