WHAT IT IS: Where other acts meander around the surface, this U.K.-based, melancholic rapper burrows into the core of a feeling and emerges from the depths with the roots of an emotion. This past summer, HEX dropped “Too Bad,” “Blow” and “Paranoia”—all while building excitement in the mixshow community, following a U.S. radio promo tour. As for where he’s going next: “I’m in a different place mentally than before. Back when my debut tracks were released, I didn’t [leave] Nottingham. But now I’m here…and now it’s time to make everyone see it.”
