WHAT IT IS: Marie Ulven is a 21-year-old Norwegian artist, and girl in red is her musical project. The singer/songwriter/producer has garnered a massive online following in response to her sincere, guitar-driven indie pop—all self-recorded and self-produced in her childhood bedroom. Having amassed more than 125m streams since first self-releasing music in 2016, Ulven appeared at #9 on N.Y. Times’ “The 68 Best Songs of 2018,” with single “i wanna be your girlfriend,” and was featured in Billboard’s “50 Best Songs This Year (So Far).” She’s currently one of three acts nominated for the 2020 Music Moves Europe Talent Award and is redefining the term “indepen-dent artist” in her own way.
