WHAT IT IS: Since ambushing the music scene in 2015, DaBaby—formerly known as Baby Jesus—has made a huge impact on Carolina music. He explains his decision to embrace this current alias on “DaBaby (Intro)” from 2016’s God’s Work Resurrected, his first mixtape under the new moniker. After dropping no fewer than six mixtapes in 2017, he continued in a similarly prolific fashion last year with Baby Talk 5 and Blank Blank. Baby On Baby—released this spring—debuted at #4 on Apple Music’s Top 100 and #25 on the Billboard Top 200, earning DaBaby a #1 slot on Pandora’s Trendsetters Chart. The first video from Baby on Baby, “Suge,” was #19 on YouTube’s Top Music Videos Chart at press time; so far, it’s garnered more than 17m views.
