Legendary hip-hop producer DJ Premier−also known as Premo−recently made an appearance on Michael Rapaport’s I AM RAPAPORT: STEREO PODCAST, which boasts an annual audience of 20m+. In the course of the episode, it deviated from standard podcast fare and took on more of an audio-documentary quality, covering the producer’s extensive career and future prospects.

The mega-producer talks about working with big names in hip-hop like Nas, Jay-Z, The Notorious B.I.G., A$AP Ferg and many more. He also details some unforgettable memories about Gang Starr and his time with Guru. When asked about the short list of emcees he’s never worked with, Premo gives praise to Drake for his consistency over the years and lists him as a Top 5 favorite. They remark on the potential dopeness of a Premo-produced Drake joint—might this spark a collaboration between the two in the future?

Three decades in the biz hasn’t slowed Premo down. Together, him and Royce Da 5’9” form the group PRhyme. They recently released PRhyme 2, taking Top 5 status at Apple Music and iTunes. Details on a few U.S. dates can be checked out here. Other upcoming projects in motion include a Gang Starr documentary, a collaborative project with De La Soul and Pete Rock, and a few other projects that he’s keeping under wraps for now. Whether you’ve been a fan of DJ Premier for years, or you're interested in learning about hip-hop and one of its legends, this episode is a must listen.

In recent episodes, the podcast has had a handful of other notable hip-hop acts stop by, namely Method Man, Ice-T, Lil Dicky, Chris Webby, and duo will.i.am with up-and-comer LGP Qua, who recently released their first single, “Insomniac.” On 5/2 they air a new episode about James Brown, featuring guests Pete Rock and J Rocc. I AM RAPAPORT: STEREO PODCAST is available to stream or download on all major platforms.
