HITS Playlister Ranya Khoury delves deep into the swirling darkness that is the web to connect you with a salve for all that ails you–good music.

I recently got the inside scoop about how playlist enthusiast Ben Goodwin turned his Spotify profile from a recreational activity into what is now a notorious home to many undiscovered, independent artists. As Manager of Strategic Insights and Delivery at The Melbourne Olympic Parks, Goodwin has always been surrounded by the amenities of the music industry — previously working with internationally known artists such as Bruno Mars, Queen and Adam Lambert. Despite his jam-packed schedule, the Aussie native somehow finds enough time to build and maintain a successful playlist network on Spotify. Accounting for over 19k followers across his growing list of playlists, it's questionable whether or not Goodwin sleeps — my money's on the latter.

His streaming effort was ignited by his hunger to spice up the office ambiance, so he curated playlists that both he and his team could enjoy. It would soon come to him as a surprise, that his playlists would be passed around at work, eventually increasing his followers by a whopping 3k.

Goodwin began building playlists focused around new and upcoming artists, often grouping them by genre or theme. With a personal agenda of attending events such as SXSW and listening to unreleased submission demos, Goodwin stays in the know. In order to stay on track Ben dedicates at least one day out of the week to update his playlists, adding in the newest and hottest tracks.

Goodwin’s agnostic playlist Buzz Tracks - The 200, features some of the hottest upcoming acts such as Dermont Kennedy, Superorganism, LION BABE, and many more. His reward is priceless — “being contacted by artists and users is the most satisfying part about this. Saying they really enjoy what I'm putting out, is enough for me.”

Check out his array of unique playlists here.
