IVANA: since this is the last column before Thanksgiving, the annual holiday where my culinary skills remain untested, perhaps we should discuss reasons to be thankful? LENNY: i have many IVANA: ok, so why don't you start LENNY: first of all today, i am thankful that mike tierney is back in action and it made me smile to see him add my favorite record today: pete yorn & scarlett johansson IVANA: yes, and I'm thankful that the wfnx xmas show, with Spoon headlining, and phoenix and passion pit also on the bill, is sold out. and speaking of your favorite utensil, i am thankful that a new spoon single, called "written in reverse," will be serviced digitally on monday LENNY: nice, i didn't know that.... IVANA: it's from their upcoming cd called transference, which comes out on january 26. so i'm thankful that the stations who have spoon headlining their xmas show (wfnx, krbz, knrk and kbzt) will have new music to play LENNY: eggselent..... and i am thankful for all our friends in records and in the world of radio that still have jobs this holiday season IVANA: no shit. if the national unemployment rate is 10%, with a REAL unemployment rate of around 17% (factoring in those who haven't sought employment in the past 4 weeks), i can only imagine what the unemployment rate for the music industry is this year LENNY: Barf, not good, not good at all IVANA: and although I'm very sad that jody denberg is resigning from kgsr after 19 years, I'm thankful that he's doing it of his own accord LENNY: jody did an unbelievable job thru the years and we wish him the best.... that station is now legendary IVANA: i was just in austin last week and I thought both kgsr and 101x sounded incredible! LENNY: kudos to programming god lynn barstow IVANA: so i'm thankful that there are still radio stations that believe in the thrill of discovering new music LENNY: btw, this is getting a little nauseating, can't we bag on something? IVANA: oh definitely. this is so not like us. you first LENNY: hmmmm IVANA: don't tell me you've lost your edge? LENNY: my edge in dallas or my edge in phoenix? IVANA: hey, he's MY edge in phoenix. marc young is one of the programmers i'm thankful for! Btw, have you seen the 30 seconds to mars video? it's really cool but it made my thighs hurt LENNY: it made your thighs hurt? IVANA: get your mind out of the gutter! the scenes of the band biking around la. i wouldn't have made it past the first mile LENNY: soon julian will be riding his bike IVANA: he could be the least coordinated kid on the planet (and I mean that lovingly), so I will have to wrap him in bubblewrap before I let him try that! back to 30stm, bill and howard are on their way to yet another #1 record with "kings and queens" LENNY: bill and howard's amazing abilities at promotion never cease to astound, and with a song and vid as great at kings and queens, i am not the slightest bit surprised IVANA: i'm also completely in love with the julian casablancas solo record, and speaking of julians, i am going to see julian plenti this thursday night! LENNY: so it's time to say hello, hello, hello i must be going.... i need to plan for my tgiving evening.... i will be cooking for 17 this year IVANA: i have already ordered my dinner from joan's on third. maybe the tryptophan in the turkey will result in julian sleeping past 6am! I'd be VERY thankful for that! LENNY: one can only hope. bye IVANA: and seriously, thank YOU!
