SONY/ATV CHECKS INTO HOTEL
7/13/18

Sony/ATV has found a new place to dwell: the new Elvis Presley stage musical Heartbreak Hotel. Marty Bandier and company have joined the production as a co-producer and investor. It opens Sunday at Chicago’s Broadway Theater.

Sony/ATV is already licensing more than a dozen songs for the show, among them “Hound Dog,” “Jailhouse Rock,” “Mystery Train” and the title track, Presley’s first #1 single.

“Elvis Presley is the ultimate music icon who not only totally transformed music but changed the world,” said Bandier, Sony/ATV Music Publishing Chairman and CEO. Heartbreak Hotel “will not only serve as a fantastic reminder to everyone like me who grew up with Elvis just how unique and special he was, but will be a terrific way for a new audience to discover the music and life of The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll.”

As a producer, Sony/ATV joins Heartbreak King Productions, the team behind Rock of Ages and A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder, and Authentic Brands Group, owner of Elvis Presley Enterprises LLC. Sony/ATV’s other producing credit is the Carole King musical Beautiful; the pubbery was also involved in Motown the Musical.

Written and directed by Million Dollar Quartet co-creator Floyd Mutrux, Heartbreak Hotel recounts Presley’s early life. Eddie Clendening stars as Elvis.

As enthusiastic as he is about the show, Bandier refuses to switch to Colonel Tom Parker's brand of cigar.
