ROUND HILL BUYS CARLIN FOR A REPORTED $240M
1/11/18

Round Hill Music has acquired Carlin Music, the family-run independent publisher best-known for its trove of Elvis Presley hits, ‘60s classics and boffo Broadway shows.

Founded in 1966 by Freddy Bienstock and run by his daughter Caroline for the last eight years, the catalog was built on songs Bienstock solicited for Presley films and acquisitions such as Belinda Music, TM Music/Faithful Virtue Music, Edward B. Marks Music Co. and the music publishing interests of the New York Times.

“Every now and again you get the chance to acquire something very special. In this case, it is Carlin Music,” said Richard Rowe, Vice Chairman of Round Hill Music. “We at Round Hill are very proud to take over this remarkable catalog representing decades of hit songs, and continue the wonderful job done by his daughter Caroline and her brother Robert.”

Caroline Bienstock of Carlin Music said, “I firmly believe that they appreciate the special quality of our collection of music every bit as much as we do, and I look forward to seeing our writers thrive under their management. I cannot imagine a better fit, and I'm excited for the future.”

The catalog received a heated bidding war and Round Hill’s winning bid is a reported $240 million.

Round Hill, with a catalog that early Beatles hits, “Stop! In the Name of Love,” “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” and “When a Man Loves a Woman,” will become home to perennials such as “Are You Lonesome Tonight,” “Happy Together,” “Jingle Bell Rock,” “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home),” Fiddler on the Roof and Cabaret.
