In yet another indication of the chaos said to be engulfing the industry bible, according to inside sources, several freelance writers have been trying, vainly, to get paid on invoices dating back to November, with a single contributor rumored to be owed a whopping $32k—and several others owed many thousands.
Mike Smith’s Warner/Chappell U.K. has signed producer duo Mac & Phil, whose names you’ll find on the credits of The Chainsmokers’ “Bloodstream,” as well as music for Emeli Sandé, James Arthur and Naughty Boy. In other signing news, Jay Pryor has joined the roster of Virgin/EMI and Sony label Relentless has signed London rapper C Biz.
Buena Vista/Disneynature's Born in China—a documentary-style film that follows the adventures of a panda, a golden monkey and a snow leopard—was the only new film to make the domestic box office's Top 5 this week, earning just over $5m. Universal blockbuster The Fate of the Furious brought in $39m in its second week, holding at #1.
