Grammy’s tres hombres, Neil Portnow, Ken Ehrlich and Jack Sussman, grace the cover of the latest special issue of our print publication, while heir to the Sony throne Rob Stringer is our Contents page VIP. They are all busily arranging to have every extant copy destroyed.
Kaleo‘s debut single, “Way Down We Go,” went #1 at Alternative radio—a rare feat. The Triple 8-repped band, whose debut full-length A/B (Elektra) bowed Top 10, sold out their first-ever U.S. headline run earlier this year. Their music has earned them an array of strong syncs. “No Good” went Top 10 at Active Rock, and beloved album cut “All the Pretty Girls” went Top 10 at Triple A. The band's currently on the road with Bishop Briggs as their opener. We assume frontman JJ Julius Son must be quite exhausted; why else would he agree to answer our questions?
We’re geeking out over a pair of just-announced vinyl box sets from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, The Complete Studio Albums Vols. 1 & 2. The companion sets—the first from UMe and the second on Reprise—round up the entire TP&HBs and Petty studio-album discographies.
The cover shoot for our recent Grammy special issue is the subject of the latest animated misadventure known as Airhead, co-starring Grammy trio Neil Portnow, Ken Ehrlich, Jack Sussman, our own Lenny Beer, Lyor and more. The scene is Neil's office. Mayhem ensues. We are so, so sorry.
Interscope’s Lady Gaga will debut at #1 on both our Sales Plus Streaming (SPS) Chart and Album Sales Chart this week. Reprise's Michael Buble looks set to follow her at #2, while RCA's Pentatonix are poised for a Top 5 bow on both charts. Also noteworthy: More than half of each Top 15 will be made of new releases.
The table has been perfectly set for the Grammy inner circle, with bona fide superstars Adele, Beyoncé and Drake all on board, offering them the opportunity to get it right next February—something for which they’ve been widely criticized in the recent past.
Republic now owns 50% of the iTunes Top 10 singles, including the top two tracks, Drake's new "Fake Love" and "Sneakin'," The Weeknd's "Starboy" (#5), Hailee Steinfeld & Grey's "Starving" f/Zedd (#7) and Ariana Grande f/Nicki Minaj's "Side to Side" (#10). Chieftain Monte Lipman, #VIPLife prez Charlie Walk and promo topper Gary Spangler are sneakin' a joint to celebrate.
