SPOTIFY CANCELS GRAMMY-WEEK EVENTS, DONATES TO FIREAID, MUSICARES, MORE

Spotify is the latest company to cancel its Grammy-related events. Spotify’s Global Head of Music Partnerships & Audience Joe Hadley issued a press release on Wednesday (1/16) explaining they'd be redirecting the funds allocated for their Best New Artist gathering and other events to fire aid relief. With donations to MusiCares and other organizations, Spotify has committed $5m in total.
"These efforts include Spotify-funded donations to MusiCares, an organization that provides a safety net of critical assistance in times of need, and FireAid, a benefit concert on January 30 with proceeds centered on rebuilding infrastructure, supporting displaced families, and advancing fire prevention technologies," Hadley explained. "We’re also joining forces with GoFundMe to support and spotlight fundraisers dedicated to helping members of the artist and music community who’ve been affected by the fires."
UMG, Sony, BMG and Warner are among the other companies that have canceled its Grammy week events, but the Recording Academy has condensed its events to just three days. The 67th annual Grammy Awards take place 2/2 at the Crypto.Com Arena. Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason jr. confirmed the ceremony will double as a fundraiser.
