U.K. MIDWEEKS: MABEL'S FLYING HIGH

UMG label Polydor has the highest new entries on the U.K.'s Official Albums and Singles midweeks: Ariana Grande & Social House, who have shot straight in at #1 on with “Boyfriend," and Mabel at #2 on albums with her debut High Expectations.

Should “Boyfriend” hold onto its top spot by Friday, Ariana will have her sixth chart-topping single in Blighty and Social House will earn their first chart entry.

Elsewhere, Sam Smith’s “How Do You Sleep?” (Capitol) is up one place to #10, and Krept & Konan f/Headie One and K-Trapi’s “I Spy” (Virgin EMI) is up 23 spots to #14 following the release of a new remix featuring Bugzy Malone, RV, SL, Abra Cadabra, Morrison and Snap Capone.

The second highest new singles entry this week looks set to be U.K. rapper Aitch’s “Taste (Make It Shake)” (Since 93) at #15.

On the albums midweeks, Ed Sheeran remains at #1 with No.6 Collaborations Project (Atlantic).

Mabel's album title is apt as Polydor has put a lot of weight and time behind her. She comes from a talented family of musicians: Her parents are Neneh Cherry and producer Cameron McVey (Massive Attack, Portishead, All Saints, Sugababes). The effort so far has resulted in three Top 10 hits— “Finders Keepers” f/Kojo Funds (#8), “Don’t Call Me Up” (#3) and “Mad Love” (#8). High Expectations follows her reissued mixtape, Ivy to Roses, which reached #28 in February.

The second highest new album today is Drake’s Care Package (Island) starting at #4, followed by Danish rock band Volbeat, who are set to claim their highest U.K. chart position with Rewind, Replay, Rebound (Virgin) at #5.
