"HIGHER LOVE" ASCENDS AGAIN

Bet you didn’t expect to wake up Friday morning, turn on the TV news and hear a cover of Steve Winwood’s 1986 classic “Higher Love” sung by the late Whitney Houston and remixed by Norwegian DJ/producer Kygo. The track—which combines state-of-the-art modern record-making with the ecstatic lift of one of the great singers of all time who’s armed with a potent hook—is just out on RCA and has Peter Edge’s fingerprints all over it. It’s rocketing up the iTunes chart as word of mouth spreads.

Primary Wave’s Seth Faber reportedly hatched the idea before the ink was dry on PW’s deal with the Houston estate. Knowing that Kygo was a big Whitney fan, the story goes, Faber pitched the remix concept to Edge, who embraced it.

Houston’s takes on “Higher Love” is derived from a 1990 live performance in Tokyo, which was recorded for possible use on what would be her third album, I’m Your Baby Tonight, according to no less an authority than Clive Davis, Houston's champion and Edge's mentor.
