TYLER VS. KHALED: SONY'S TITLE BOUT

May 21, 2019

Two new Sony releases are duking it out for the top spot on our next chart.

Two new Sony releases are duking it out for the top spot on our next chart. Columbia’s Tyler, The Creator currently enjoys the advantage over We The Best/Epic’s DJ Khaled. Tyler’s “Earfquake” is the #1 track at Spotify U.S. and Apple Music, while Khaled has six tracks on the latter service’s Top 10, including the #2 and #3 songs. Here’s what the state of play looks like:

Tyler, The Creator (Columbia) 145-170k total activity, 45-65k album
DJ Khaled (We The Best/Epic) 110-135k, 20-30k

You’ll notice lots of Apple real estate devoted to Khaled, whose new Father of Asahd set features an array of guest stars. His highest-streaming tracks so far are “Wish Wish” f/Cardi B & 21 Savage and “Higher” f/John Legend and the late Nipsey Hussle. Another track, “Just Us” f/SZA (currently Top 10 at Apple), has just gone to radio. This is Khaled’s highest-charting song at Spotify U.S., at #32.

Tyler’s IGOR album has another track in the Spotify and Apple U.S. Top 10s (“I Think” at #8 and #9, respectively) and a gaggle of songs bubbling just under the Top 15. “Earfquake” is also Top 10 on the Spot’s Global chart.

Khaled and Tyler have the #1 and #3 spots, respectively, on the iTunes album chart. None of their tracks are in the Top 10 there.

How will this grudge match evolve in the coming days? Stay tuned.
