WHO'S UP FOR
AN IVOR?

The Ivor Novello Awards nominations are big this year on first-timers, grime and politically charged songs. Ghetts, Jorja Smith and The 1975 are up for the top prize of Best Contemporary Song.

The U.K.’s most prestigious songwriting awards, which will be handed out 5/23 at London's Grosvenor House, have 70% rookie nominees. To be eligible, works had to have been commercially released in the U.K. in 2018 and at least one-third of the songwriting has to be done by a Brit or an Irish person.

"The works nominated for The Ivors 2019 are brilliantly diverse, and we're delighted to see so many first-time nominees recognised," said Ivors Academy Chair Crispin Hunt. "As the only peer-nominated music award in the country, they are a fantastic reflection of the exciting emerging talent of British and Irish music creators today."

Among the majors, Sony/ATV, which now includes EMI, has nine nominations, Warner/Chappell secured eight and Universal two.
