Pianist Lang Lang (UMG) has his biggest streaming debut to date with new album Piano Book, released on 3/29, breaking 1.1m+ streams across all platforms, an impressive start for a classical release. The album, which is a collection of classical essentials and folk songs from around the world, includes piano works from Beethoven’s “Fur Elise” to more contemporary works like Max Richter’s “The Departure.”
“I’m going back to my first love, to the pieces that made me want to become a musician in the first place,” says Lang Lang. A reflection of his dedication to music education, The Lang Lang Foundation has also pledged to donate $5m across U.S. public schools to fund music education earlier this month.
The Grammy-nominated artist and classical music chart topper has performed globally for world leaders like Barack Obama, Pope Francis, and Queen Elizabeth II as well as opened both the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the final of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Rio.
