Albums still matter, but the business definition of the term is far different in 2018 than it has been during the format's six decades of supremacy. To the majors, the “Album” is a repository of metrics—think of it as a folder bearing the heading “Total Activity,” containing several subfolders, one of which is labeled “Streams.”
